The newly-refurbished B&D Newcastle gallery space in Newcastle will be officially launched tomorrow with a Brexit-led exhibition.
Please Stand By is a solo pop art collection from North East-based independent artist Johnnyx, and will be unveiled at an open-to-all preview event at the gallery on Pilgrim Street.
Scheduled to take place on the date which was – up until last week – so often synonymous with the Brexit negotiations and process, the artist will be displaying their take on what we might be looking forward to.

Johnnyx says: “The show reflects my thoughts on our future – post Brexit. I extract themes from news stories, and re-purposed imagery from advertising and promotions – using an eclectic mix of old and new in order to create a provocative often humorous information aesthetic.
“My aim is to turn a de-constructional, sometimes subversive lens on cultural themes – and this time I am focusing on the UK’s current self-destruction mode.”
B&D Studios aim to support a variety of creative graduates who want to make the North East their home.
Why Tyneside's creative studios are open for business this weekend
The preview evening will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at B&D Studios on the third floor of Commercial Union House. There will be a drinks reception, pop-up food from Waroeng Indonesia and a Johnnyx artwork print auction, with all the proceeds going to the Indonesian Tsunami disaster fund.
Early bird visitors will receive a free newsprint edition of Johnnyx’s art prints Please Stand By or DIY Cat – both exclusive to B&D Studios. Screen printed editions of the works on display will also be available to buy during the evening.
Please Stand By will run until April 19. Contact B&D for opening hours on 0191 261 1215.
