The Washington Redskins have selected Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat with the 26th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.
This is an excellent pick for the Redskins. He is a tenacious and violent pass rusher who generates a lot of pressure on the outside. He has great length, athleticism, and strength and uses that to work up field and crush opposing quarterbacks.
He doesn’t have great bend or quickness on film but but the upside with him is great.
For the Redskins, taking the chance on Sweat could turn out to be quite beneficial. Sweat has a ton of upside and he crushed the combine. For a team looking to replace Preston Smith, this is as good as you could get. He should be able to step right in and contribute in the same way that Smith contributed for the team. Good pick for a team looking for a pass rusher.
