Rangers and Celtic fans deprived of Youth Cup final with Northern Ireland stars

Celtic and Rangers fans found out the Youth Cup final between the Old Firm rivals will be played behind closed doors next week.

The Scottish Youth Cup blow for Northern Ireland youngsters as Rangers v Celtic to be played behind closed doors on Thursday, April 25 with a 7.05pm kick off time but tickets won't go on general sale for supporters.

BBC Scotland will show the clash live but it's some certainly some disappointing news for fans who were hoping to cheer on their side and check out the promising youngsters coming through the ranks this season.

Rangers starlets Nathan Young-Coombes, Josh McPake and Dapo Mebude will square off against the likes of Karamoko Dembele and Armstrong Oko-Flex for Celtic .

There are also a few Northern Ireland youngsters set to feature for their respective clubs including Chris McKee, Kyle McClelland, Daniel Finlayson and Ben Wylie.

But why have fans been deprived of the opportunity to go out and support their team in the final?

It all arises from the Glasgow Cup Final back in 2013 where fan trouble erupted during the Old Firm contest.

6000 fans turned out to watch the two sides battle it out at Firhill but the use of smoke bombs, flares and broken seats caused Police Scotland to intervene making three arrests.

And 12 months later at Parkhead, there was more fan trouble as 8000 people attended a U-17s clash between the two sides.

Since that day tickets have not went on general sale for any Old Firm contests at youth level.
