Why primary school in Ruddington is staying open after pupil tests positive for coronavirus

A Nottinghamshire primary school has been told it can remain open to all children after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

A letter seen by Nottinghamshire Live was sent to all parents and guardians of St Peter's Church of England Junior School in Ruddington after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday (September 11).

Headteacher Michael Bradley explained in the letter that a child in Year 3 had contracted the virus and it was reported "immediately" to Public Health England who investigated.

But due to confirmation the child did not attend school during "the infectious period", the school has been told by PHE that it can remain open to all pupils who feel well.

Mr Bradley wrote: "I know that this will be a worrying time for the school community.

"Even though we have been assured that no pupils or staff will need to self-isolate, I thought it important in the interests of transparency to provide you with this information.

"I am sure that you will understand we cannot disclose information about the child who has tested positive in order to protect their privacy.

"Please be assured that we are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to follow all of the guidance provided by the Government and Public Health England."

It comes as at least 14 schools have now confirmed cases, leading to partial or full closures, placing pupils and staff into isolation for 14 days.

Hall Park Academy in Mansfield Road, Eastwood, was the latest to announce on its website that an individual within the school had contracted the virus.
