Why police were sweeping Bristol park with metal detectors

Police have been carrying out sweeps of a Bristol park with metal detectors - to look for weapons.

Officers from south Bristol Neighbourhood Policing team carried out checks of the south Bristol park following concerns from the community.

It is not yet known if any weapons were found.

The park is a known hot-spot for anti social behaviour.

There have been reports of vandalism and attempted muggings in the past.

There have also been reports of teenagers with weapons, including screwdrivers and knives.

In a tweet, south Bristol Neighbourhood Policing team said: “South Bristol's Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted a weapons sweep in Victoria Park this morning using metal detectors (and local knowledge) in direct response to community concerns.

“Some great chats with local people and safety advice given out. #ReducingCrime #LocalPolicing.”
