Why police were called to Bristol hotel today

Staff at a Bristol hotel and wedding venue called police today (May 24) after a "disturbance" inside.

Police officers were seen at Arnos Manor Hotel in Bath Road this afternoon, and Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now confirmed why they were called out.

A witness told Bristol Live she saw police in the car park and officers going in and out of the hotel, and said forensics also appeared to be in attendance.

The force has not confirmed if forensics were involved, but said it was called to a "disturbance involving a member of the public".

A spokesperson said: "Staff at a hotel in Bath Road called police to a disturbance involving a member of the public at the premises, just before 12.45pm on Sunday, May 24.

"On police arrival a 28-year-old man agreed to leave the property and there was no further requirement for police action."

A staff member at the hotel declined to comment further about the nature of the incident.

The hotel houses 73 en-suite bedrooms but is not currently open to the public due to the coronavirus lockdown.

It is run by Crest Hotels Group, which states on its website: "Arnos Manor currently remains closed to the general public due to working in close partnership with Bristol City Council, providing exclusive use services for those most in need."

Several other hotels in the group are planning to reopen on June 1 for key workers, essential travellers and vulnerable people, according to the same statement.

These include Almondsbury Interchange Hotel near Bristol.
