Why police rushed to housing association HQ in Miles Platting and staff were evacuated

Housing association offices were evacuated after a telephone threat.

Police were scrambled to Adactus Housing Association on Oldham Road, Miles Platting, at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

I 's understood around 20 staff were evacuated from the building, Baker House.

Police haven't confirmed the exact nature of the threat made.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed in a statement that officers were in attendance and enquiries were ongoing.

No further details have been revealed.

The housing association has its headquarters in Leigh, Wigan.

Adactus bosses confirmed a 'security alert', but said later that police confirmed the building was safe to be used again.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 12.30pm today, Wednesday, police received a report that threats had been made towards Adactus Housing Baker House on Oldham Road in Miles Platting, Manchester.

"Officers are in attendance and are currently making assessments.

"People have been evacuated as a precaution.

"Enquiries are ongoing. 

"Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 1345 of 24/07/19 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."

There have been no reports of any injuries.

Police said specialist firearms officers were not in attendance.

A witness at the scene said: "Around 20 members of staff were evacuated from the office building and have been waiting in the car park outside since midday today.

"There were also three police cars and a police van parked outside the building.

"A section of Varley Street, at the junction of Oldham Road, was also cordoned off by police, but this has now been removed."

The office is surrounded by residential houses and a Nisa supermarket is located underneath the building.

Jigsaw Group took over the housing association last year.

Baker House, a regional office providing local housing services, opened in July, 2012.

Delroy Kerr, neighbourhood services manager at Adactus Housing Association, said: "Following the receipt of a security alert this morning, our Miles Platting office was evacuated. The police have attended, assessed the situation and confirmed that the building can be used.

"We expect services to our customers from the office to be re-established later this afternoon.

"In line with our procedure for managing incidents, we were able to divert customer calls to our office in Leigh. However, we apologise if any customers were inconvenienced. The safety of our employees and customers is our highest priority."
