Why police plane was circling over Swarcliffe and Seacroft in Leeds last night

Residents in two Leeds suburbs were left on edge last night after a police plane circled the area around a dozen times.

Flight Radar 24 shows that the National Police Air Service deployed one of its aircraft with the plane seen circling Swarcliffe and Seacroft around 8pm on Saturday, October 31.

The plane's appearances prompted questions and concerns from members of the public, with many tweeting to ask for answers as to why it was deployed.

In a tweet to West Yorkshire Police, one person asked: "Is there any reason a plane is circling over the north Seacroft area? They’ve been circling for ages."

Another person tweeted a sargeant asking: "Do you have any idea why we have a plane circling over the swarcliffe area of Leeds14? Very loud putting some people on edge."

The police plane's circles were mapped out on Flight Radar and according to reports, the plane was providing assistance to officers on the ground dealing with an incident in Langbar Grove.

One person claimed motorbike gangs were causing "mayhem" prompting the heavy police response.

She said: "As like previous Halloweens it seems there were motorbike/scooters stolen and ridden by gangs."

Yorkshire Live has contacted West Yorkshire Police for more information and a statement on the deployment of the plane.
