Why police helicopter was seen flying low over Nottinghamshire village

A police helicopter was spotted hovering over a Nottinghamshire village after officers searched for suspects of a break in.

Witnesses say they heard and saw a helicopter in the village of Orston shortly before midnight on Tuesday night (November 17).

One said she she was concerned after also seeing police on the ground in the area.

Officers have since confirmed they were called just before 11.40pm yesterday to a report two men had broken a lock off a garage at a house in Lombard Street in Orston.

One of the men was described as wearing a bobble hat while the other had a torch.

The police helicopter was deployed in the search for the men. However, despite the efforts of the helicopter and officers on the ground, the men were not found.

Neighbourhood Inspector Craig Berry said: “Unfortunately despite the best efforts of officers and the assistance of the helicopter, we were not able to find those responsible for this incident last night.

“We will continue our enquiries including going door to door in the area, and I would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone who has information should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 736 of 17 November 2020.
