A police helicopter was spotted circling above Gloucester Road earlier today.
Witnesses also described a 'large police presence' at around 8:30am (March 19).
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed officers were investigating ' a vehicle seen in the city in suspicious circumstances'.
They said: "Police would like to reassure people following police activity in the Gloucester Road area of Bristol this morning.
"Officers, supported by the National Police Air Service helicopter, were making enquiries following a report of a vehicle seen in the city in suspicious circumstances at 8.30am.
"We have traced the vehicle, spoken to the occupants and reviewed CCTV.

"We're grateful to the witness who took the trouble to call and report their concerns. However this was a call with good intent reporting suspicions which were thankfully unfounded.
"We do always encourage people to report any suspicious incident they witness, so we can make the appropriate enquiries."
An eyewitness said: "A lot of police presence at top of Gloucester Road , helicopter up and a number of marked cars."
