Police helicopter flying over Bristol in response to concern for a man's welfare

A police helicopter was deployed this morning (August 21) to help with a concern for welfare.

Several residents spotted the helicopter flying near Gloucester Road earlier today.

One witness said: "A helicopter has been flying around for over 20 mins now, chasing someone?

"Flying between White Tree Road area and the Downs."

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has confirmed the helicopter was assisting with a search.

A police spokesman said: "The helicopter has been deployed to help with a concern for a man's welfare.

"We were called out at 7.35am to Springfield Grove."

Police aviation explained

Police officers were also called to nearby Gloucester Road this morning following a crash.

The A38 outbound was blocked in both directions by the collision and motorists were warned to expect delays. 

One police car and one paramedic motorbike remain at the scene.
