Why police descended on Bristol's Christmas Market this evening

Several police cars with flashing blue lights descended on Bristol's Christmas Market this evening.

Revellers saw officers jump out of the emergency vehicles run through the festive stalls and head into The Cooperative bank, on Broadmead at around 4.50pm today (Tuesday).

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed detectives were looking into a fraud case.

He said: "We were called to reports of a potential fraud.

"The case is ongoing."

A witness told Bristol Live: "Police in Cabot. They have gone into the Christmas Market and then into The Cooperative bank."

A spokeswoman for the bank said: "I can not comment on any police incident but helping to prevent to fraud is absolute paramount to us."

Bristol Live did contact the bank for a comment but there was no one available for a comment this evening.
