Why police cordoned off Shirehampton post office

Police were called to a Bristol post office after a man "made off with cash".

The Shirehampton branch in the Parade was cordoned off after reports of a robbery.

The incident happened at around 1pm today (February 16) and images taken later in the afternoon showed police at the scene.

At around 2.40pm, one police officer and vehicle were at the scene, and the post office was blocked off with police tape.

The tape was stretched around the pillars outside the small post office.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 1pm this afternoon, we received a report of a robbery at the Post Office in The Parade, Shirehampton.

“A male is believed to have made off with a quantity of cash. Officers remain at the scene."
