Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has revealed he is surprised by the club signing Casemiro from Real Madrid, and insinuated that they should have looked at a player with Premier League experience.
The 30-year-old was announced as Erik ten Hag's fourth signing on Friday evening with the Reds releasing a statement that they had reached an agreement with the La Liga giants over his move. His signing at Old Trafford is subject to UK visa requirements and a medical.
United are paying £60million plus a possible further £10m in add-ons for Casemiro, with the Brazilian signing a four-year contract with the option of a further year.

Schmeichel is a fan of the Brazilian defensive midfielder, but has stated that he feels United should have signed someone in the position who has played in the league.
Speaking on BBC Sport, he said: "I'm surprised that this player is being mentioned at that amount of money and on those wages, at that age, when we don't know if he can do the job. Maybe sign someone who we know can play in the Premier League for now, and then next season look at someone like Casemiro next year, who is also an exciting player to watch."
United have had a dismal start to the Premier League campaign, sitting bottom after losses to Brighton and Brentford.
