Why Paul Pogba transfer talks with Real Madrid have 'stalled' as Man Utd star eyes exit

Real Madrid's talks to sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba have stalled due to the player's considerable wage demands, according to reports in France.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is expected to be busy in the transfer window after a difficult campaign which is set to see the Spanish giants finish third in La Liga after suffering a surprise exit against Ajax in the Champions League last 16.

According to reports, the Frenchman has already agreed an £86 million deal to bring Chelsea winger Eden Hazard to the Bernabeu this summer, with an announcement expected after the Europa League final against Arsenal .

And L'Equipe claims that Zidane, who returned to Los Blancos in March after Santiago Solari was sacked, has now turned his attention to adding Pogba to his ranks as he looks to bolster his midfield.

The France international has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Zidane previously revealing his admiration for the midfielder.

Despite highlighting the Madrid manager's interest in his compatriot, the French publication reports that Pogba's £13m-a-year demands are proving to be an obstacle to any potential deal as they do not comply with the club's wage structure.

A Madrid source is said to have told L'Equipe : "A Neymar or an [Kylian] Mbappe can upon entry be the highest paid player in the squad, but not a Pogba."

Paul Pogba makes Man Utd WORSE, claims former Premier League defender

The United midfielder has already fuelled suggestions that he could leave Manchester this summer and has previously admitted that playing for Real Madrid would be a "dream" .

Pobga was heavily criticised by a Manchester United fan following Sunday's final-day defeat against Cardiff and former Red Devils defender Patrice Evra has warned that such treatment could push the Frenchman to the exit.

Evra said: "I think he will leave because you need to feel the love when you play somewhere, you need to be committed.

"If Paul decides to stay another year and then leave, or stay another few years, maybe the fans will love him because he is committed. The United fans love you when you say you are committed."
