Why Paul Pogba's 13-word statement from 2016 after Man Utd transfer is very relevant now

Paul Pogba's time at Manchester United looks to be up.

Real Madrid and Juventus are keen on landing the World Cup winner this summer and it seems the feeling is very much mutual.

The Red Devils are doing their best to keep hold of their prized asset, with the club slapping a staggering £150million price tag on his head to ward off suitors, or at the very least, recoup a profit on their £89m investment from 2016.

But Pogba appears to be doing his utmost to force a transfer away.

"Like you said, there is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well," the Frenchman told reporters in Japan recently.

"After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well... I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.

"I am thinking of this: to have a new challenge somewhere else."

So where have things gone wrong for Pogba at United?

Former Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho publicly claimed the midfielder could be Manchester United's heartbeat for the next decade following his big-money signing from Juventus.

Pogba appeared to share the Portuguese manager's optimism, telling reporters back in 2016: "This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to."

Since making this comment Pogba has won just the Europa League and EFL Cup at Manchester United , and next season the club will not even be playing in the Champions League.

The Frenchman did enjoy success with his nation at the World Cup in Russia, with Les Bleus coming out on top on the biggest stage of them all.

But at club level, Pogba's career has stagnated somewhat and it's clear the midfielder needs a new club in order to achieve everything he hopes to in the game.
