Why Paul Pogba is not going on Manchester United training camp

Manchester United will take advantage of the inaugural Premier League winter break when they travel to a warm-weather training camp in Spain this weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has allowed his players some time off this week after a hectic fixture schedule during December and January.

While some United players went away with their families, others used the time to work on their fitness in Dubai. Jesse Lingard, Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot all travelled to the UAE.

United will stay in Marbella, where Solskjaer took former club Molde for pre-season training in 2018. The MEN reported earlier in the week that Paul Pogba (ankle) and Scott McTominay (knee) would not travel due to injury.

"They'll have a week or so off and we've got more days [rest] because we're playing Chelsea on the Monday," Solskjaer said. "So we'll get together on the Saturday and we'll have a good camp, working on different things.

"Of course, we've got a few new players, hopefully we can integrate them into the squad. [The players] have been fantastic. We've had to, with all the injuries we've had, rely on many of these to maybe play more games than they should, and they've been brilliant."

January signings Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo will both travel to Spain with their new teammates.

Pogba's absence from the camp prompted reports he has been 'axed' from the camp as speculation continues to surround his future but it was never intended that he would travel.
