Why Paul Pogba could not play for Manchester United vs Burnley

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has clarified Paul Pogba 'did not feel right' to play for Manchester United in their 2-0 Premier League win at Burnley.

Pogba returned from a 12-week lay-off as a second-half substitute at Watford on December 22 but was not among the 20 squad members who arrived at Turf Moor, having played in the second-half of United's 4-1 Boxing Day stroll against Newcastle.

Senior United sources told the MEN it would be 'too soon' for Pogba to participate against Burnley since it was 48 hours after the Newcastle game and he had featured in the last two fixtures.

Pogba, 26, reported at United's Carrington training complex on Saturday afternoon but did not travel on with the squad to Burnley. Pogba played for 30 minutes at Vicarage Road before his 45-minute outing against Newcastle.

"He's been out for a long while and he didn't feel right," Solskjaer said. "He reacted to that one, we'll just have to take our time and get him ready for next time.

"When you've been out for such a while it's always gonna take time until you're 100 per cent. Today I felt Fred and Nemanja played really well and we've got real players out there.

"He wasn't ready today, because he's not really done too many games and he's had two in a few days and he just needed another day's recovery."

Pogba has not started for United since their 1-1 draw with Arsenal on September 30 and has only lined up in six games this term, appearing eight times overall.
