Why part of Wild Place Project is closed on first day of opening since lockdown

Two lynx kittens have got themselves stuck up a tree at a Bristol wildlife park.

The mischievous felines, born at the Wild Place Project in July, climbed the tree this morning (December 7) and could not get down again.

The Bear Wood section of the park has been closed to visitors while the adventurous kittens are rescued.

The Wild Place Project, which reopened today after lockdown, put out an alert on its Twitter account just before 10 am.

Bear Wood, as home to European brown bears, European grey wolves, Eurasian lynxes and wolverines, aims to give visitors a glimpse of what Britain looked like in 8,000 BC.

The enclosure covers more than seven acres and is densely forested.

Earlier this month it was announced Bristol Zoo's Clifton site will close in 2022 before reopening at the Wild Place Project in 2024.

Relocation of animals will be phased over a three-year period, with some moved to other zoos and others making the five-mile journey to the new location.
