Why part of Nottingham was taped off by firefighters on Sunday morning

An area of Nottingham has been taped off by fire crews this morning (August 9).

A fire engine is currently stationed at a cordon in Upper College Street, just off Derby Road, in the city centre.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service says there are no incidents at present and instead revealed they are there simply for training purposes.

A spokeswoman said: "They are doing some working at height training. They will be there until around 12.30pm.

"It is simply to practice for rescues, including rescuing someone from a height."

The fire service has previously used areas of the city to train for real-world events.

These have included utilising the tunnels beneath the Ducal Palace at Nottingham Castle and also scaling tower cranes at the University of Nottingham for rescue training.

Such exercises ensure firefighters are skilled in the correct procedures while also enabling them to work safety on 'high risk' sites in the event of an incident.
