Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is convinced that Harry Maguire is perfect Man Utd signing

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has canvassed his Manchester United England stars for their thoughts on Harry Maguire.

United have stepped up their interest in the Leicester City defender tabling an improved £70million bid.

Manchester City are also in the mix for 26-year-old star, but have not upped their opening gambit of £65m.

The United boss has spoken to his Three Lions contingent about Maguire to get the inside track on the big defender's personality.

Solskjaer is making a point of adding players he believes are made of the right stuff, conduct themselves in the correct manner and a worthy of being a United player.

And the feedback he got about the Foxes star from Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones was positive.

All five have spent some time in Three Lions camp with Maguire, right from the time he was first called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia in 2017.

Solskjaer was told about a quiet guy with a fantastic attitude who simply gets on with his football and will have a positive impact on the squad.

Former United boss Jose Mourinho wanted Maguire at Old Trafford last year after he enhanced his reputation as England reached the World Cup semi-final.

Maguire is open to a move to the blue or red half of Manchester but is not kicking the door down to get out of the King Power following his switch from Hull two years ago.

Pep Guardiola is after a long-term replacement for the departed Vincent Kompany, while United are desperate to add a top quality central defender to shore up their back line, having already added Crystal Palace full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
