Why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fumed at Chris Wilder during Manchester United win vs Sheffield United

Chris Wilder explained his touchline exchange with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was to do with Sheffield United's physicality.

Manchester United ran out 3-2 winners in a bruising encounter, coming from behind before holding on late in the game for victory.

United were subjected to some fairly hefty tackles by Sheffield United, which caused words to be exchanged between managers Wilder and Solskjaer on the touchline.

Speaking to Amazon Prime post-match, Wilder said he was defending his players' physicality when speaking to his United counterpart.

He said: "We have to be brave, we want to make contact with good players - that's what I said to the manager at the end.

"I said we're not going to just stand off them, like we did against Southampton, we have to go and make contact with good players.

"So to get that contact, whether it's the midfield players, the forward players or the back players, we have to get up the pitch.

"We have to take chances and we did but we should see the run out for the first goal and obviously the second goal, Aaron Ramsdale can look at his starting position a little bit and come and clear it.

"From the manner of the goals, it's disappointing."

Solskjaer addressed the issue in his own post-match interview and insisted there was no bad blood between the two after admitting he went overboard with his criticism of Wilder during the game.

He said: "Obviously with the pace and the skill in these boys, the quality of the touches and movements, I thought all three goals were excellent.

"Then again, I wanted to test my players here today as we knew it was going to be a physical test. A fight. They were going to get kicked, they were going to get kicked late.

"I don't mind a fair tackle, but when it's a second after a tackle's been made - and there was a couple right in front of me.

"I think it's one of these games that the boys will learn from, it's a proper game and it's like football should be.

"I apologised, I maybe went overboard with a word, but we'll have a drink after, me and Chris."
