Why Notts County boss Neal Ardley won't drop Enzio Boldewijn

Notts County manager Neal Ardley has launched a staunch defence of Enzio Boldewijn and says now is not the time to bench the winger.

Boldewijn has faced criticism over his performances in recent games, with some fans claiming he should be rested.

The Dutchman possesses the ability to be a matchwinner, which he proved in the 2-1 win at Forest Green when he scored a wonderful effort to seal an important three points.

Given Notts’ perilous situation in League Two, in which they are three points off safety, boss Ardley is adamant that Boldewijn is a player capable of turning a game on its head.

“We’ve got seven games to go and he’s probably one of our most exciting one-v-one players in the club,” he said.

“Is it really the time for me to take somebody out and say ‘he’s this or that’?

“Is he our best option? Yes, absolutely. Could he win a game? Absolutely. Could he make something happen? Absolutley.

Heart-breaking defeat to Exeter sums up Notts County's season, admits Neal Ardley

“That’s why I played Jim O’Brien after one training session because we’ve got to have players who can make a difference.

“There are seven games to go and it’s not the time to see if somebody needs a breather. I’ve got to put  the best team out there and drive them on to win us a game of football.”
