Why Nottingham Forest will pay Premier League rivals £5m if they avoid relegation

Nottingham Forest will reportedly pay Wolves another £5million for Morgan Gibbs-White if the Reds survive in the Premier League this season.

Forest paid Wolves an initial £25million to sign Gibbs-White, with head coach Steve Cooper keen to work with the attacking midfielder again. Much was made of the price tag, with a total figure as high as £42.5million circulated in some quarters.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and assisted another seven in 33 Premier League appearances this season, putting in some immensely important displays over the course of the campaign. Forest now sit in 16th, three points clear of the relegation zone with two games left to play.

According to The Athletic, Forest will pay Wolves another £5million for Gibbs-White if the Reds beat the drop this season, with that sum coming on top of the initial £25million.

Speaking about Gibbs-White, Cooper told The Athletic: “I don’t think about that (the transfer fee). If we’d paid double that, I wouldn’t have been thinking about that either. The fee hasn’t affected him at all. I really believe in the lad as a player and what he can do.

"What I’m more focused on is putting on the right sessions for players like Morgan. Am I providing the right support, development, challenge — and maybe some criticism, tough love, that sort of thing?"
