Why Nottingham Forest transfer target is being backed for success

Nottingham Forest summer transfer target Scott McKenna has been backed to thrive should he decide to move to England.

McKenna was linked with a move to Forest during the summer, while also attracting interest from other clubs across the country.

The Reds and Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers put forward offers believed to be in the region of £3m, while Aston Villa were said to have had a bid in the region of £6.5m rejected.

Celtic, Hull City, Stoke City and Swansea City have also previously been linked with the 23-year-old, who is reportedly valued at somewhere  between £6m and £10m by his club.

McKenna handed in a transfer request on deadline day, but instead remained at Pittodrie and has continued to perform for the Scottish Premiership club.

The 22-year-old central defender has made 22 appearances for The Dons so far this season, and McKenna’s team mate, Ash Taylor, says he has all the qualities to be a success in England.

“He’s aggressive and you need to be like as a centre-back down there because all the lads are as big as me,” Taylor told The Press and Journal .

He added: “They’re as big as you’re going to get and he can deal with that. He’s an intelligent boy.

“He’s only going to develop more because he’s a young lad. He’s left footed as well and they’re hard to come by at centre half.

“We’ve got him at the minute so we’ve got to enjoy it while we can. He’ll go on to enjoy bigger or better things but while he’s at this football club we’ve got to help him do his job and help us as a club to push on.”

“His development’s been massive. I knew he was going to be a good player because he’s aggressive, he’s quite tidy on the ball and he’s a very good defender.

“I knew that he was going to kick on but I didn’t realise how quickly he would. He took his chance with both hands and ran with it. It’s good for him and fantastic for the club.”
