Why Nottingham Forest's season-opening clash with Barnsley has come at the perfect time

Nottingham Forest defender Tyler Blackett is raring to go ahead of a new season with his new club and says that their 2020-21 opener has come at the perfect time.

The former Manchester United youngster made 122 appearances for Reading during his four-year stay in Berkshire but will now look to do battle at the top of the Championship with Sabri Lamouchi's Reds.

But the scars of last season are behind the Reds as they prepare to kick-off their campaign with a Carabao Cup clash against Barnsley this weekend.

And, despite a short pre-season, it has come at the perfect time, says Blackett.

"I can’t wait, I have enjoyed the pre-season so far and it seems like it is coming at the right time in terms of where the team is at with fitness and the confidence that we have. It is going to be an exciting start," he said.

“Everyone is upbeat and excited to get started again. It has been a short break but everyone is raring to go and they want to put things right from last season, of course."

He added: "It is now about focusing on what we have to do this season.

“I feel good, I was fit towards the end of last season so there were no injuries and going into the new season.

"I have had a full pre-season with the club here and it has been enjoyable. Everyone is up to speed now and pushing in the right direction which is good.”
