Why Nottingham Forest fans would take Britt Assombalonga back 'in a heartbeat'

Britt Assomabalonga's future at Middlesbrough is under the spotlight after reports claimed Nottingham Forest's Championship rivals could be willing to sanction a transfer in January.

Assombalonga is out of contract at the Riverside at the end of the season and the Mirror have reported that Boro could be willing to let him leave on the cheap rather than lose him for nothing.

The former Peterborough forward was a huge favourite at the City Ground where he smashed in 30 goals in 47 games and was regarded as one of the best strikers to have pulled on the Garibaldi Red in recent times.

Middlesbrough signed Assombalonga for £15m after triggering a release clause in his deal with the majority of Forest fans sad to see the forward quit the City Ground.

Yesterday's story was one of the most read on the website and we asked fans whether you would take the striker back on our Facebook site.

Plenty of you weighed in with your opinion and here's what you had to say.

Ian Watson: "Yes I’d have him back, it was the clubs decision to sell him and we got a fantastic profit for him despite him being injured for a year. And his goal record was pretty decent."

Nate Woodhead: "Would take Assombalonga back in a heartbeat. By far the best striker we have had in many years unfortunate with such a bad injury and sold at a good price. He is the prime example of one up front. He had pace, knew where the goal was and would bully defenders all day long."

David Whalin: "Yes resign him good scorer for forest made the club 10million when they sold him so don't call him a traitor forest sold him and when somone doubles your wages you would go too."

Marvin Greensmith: "Nope, would rather us get a creative player."

Andrew Beck: "Guarantee if he comes back he will bag the goals again...it one of those situations where he just didn't fit at boro.....bring him back."

Adam Booth: "Boro fans I work with say we could have him for nowt! Tells a story doesn’t it!"

Chris Galer: "I would have him back easy what else we got up front. Grabban takes five or six chances and Taylor is okay. Don't score much but work rate is brilliant. We defo need a striker."

Martin Norton: "Yes but more pressing needs in midfield. We could have aguero up front but he wouldn’t score because we don’t have anyone in the squad to find the killer pass."

What do you think about a move for Assombalonga? Agree with these fans or do you think his time has been and gone?
