Why Nottingham Forest could face further wait to discover their fate

Nottingham Forest are facing a wait to discover how their season will be ended, according to reports.

The latest EFL meeting to discuss the way out of the coronavirus crisis is due to take place tomorrow (Wednesday).

However, according to The Sun, Forest and their Football League counterparts cannot vote on the future of the 2019-20 campaign until the Premier League confirms there will be relegation from the top flight.

The report states that Championship clubs want to resume and finish the season, while League One and League Two sides are expected to end theirs early.

But it is said that these plans are on hold until the Premier League officially confirms its intentions.

Football Association chief Greg Clarke has said the governing body would block any attempt to scrap relegation from the top flight.

However, it is still not clear how the key issues will be decided if the remaining fixtures cannot be played.

The Premier League apparently has until May 25 to finalise its plans, based on a deadline set by UEFA.

This potential delay will have a knock-on effect for EFL clubs like Forest, who are fifth in the Championship table - in a play-off spot - with nine games to go.

The Sun quotes a senior club official as saying: "We cannot vote on promotion and relegation in our divisions as we still don't know if there is a clear path.

"It is very annoying. The Championship clubs want to start but don't know for sure if there will be guaranteed promotion.

"That creates a knock-on effect for Leagues One and Two. We can't be voting on something without being certain it can actually happen."
