Why no teapots will be kicked in anger in Notts County's dressing room

Neil Cox admits the days of “screaming and shouting” at players are over as he revealed how care and consideration will get the best out of Notts County’s squad.

The Magpies' assistant manager says he does not have a good cop, bad cop, relationship with boss Neal Ardley with the pair having worked alongside each other for the last six years.

Cox says the modern game means players have to be treated differently to get the best out of them and he says he and Ardley are trying to get to know families and partners to help create the right environment.

“I don’t think we are (good cop, bad cop),” he said.

“He is more calmer and the days of screaming and shouting at players are over really.

“The teapot came flying across the dressing room in my day but now it’s different.

“We have to treat players as human beings. It’s about caring for them which we do.

“We want to know they and their families are happy and if that is the case then they are going to be happy at the club.

“We are trying to get to know players which we couldn’t do last year, because we came into a really difficult situation.

“But this year we are getting to know families and players’ partners. If we can look after them then they are coming to work in a better place.”
