Why no probe into Rs 1,700 crore losses to transport dept: SAD

CHANDIGARH: The SAD on Thursday asked Punjab transport minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring why he was not seeking a fair probe into Rs 1,700 crore alleged loss incurred by his department. SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said Warring should demand a fair inquiry into the role of his predecessors so that they could be held accountable.

“The inquiry should also focus on all the wrong doings in the department in the last four and a half years so that concrete action can be taken against those guilty of causing such a huge loss to the exchequer,” he added.

Asserting that Warring should be ready to call a spade a spade, Cheema said the minister should also tell Punjabis if his predecessor had indulged in corruption that had led to huge losses in the department. The SAD leader also recalled that Warring was not in the habit of following up on his assertions.

He said earlier also Warring had tweeted about the loss caused to the state exchequer by the actions of a former chief secretary and the loss had been computed at Rs 5,600 crore by Congress leaders. Despite this revelation, Warring did not follow up on his tweet and demand a probe into the entire issue, he added.

Cheema asked the transport minister to demand an impartial probe by a central agency or the high court into the losses incurred by the transport department, as well as those incurred by the excise department.
