'Why?' Nigeria fans can't believe Gernot Rohr's decision over Arsenal and Leicester City stars

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is facing criticism from fans this afternoon (Sunday) over his decision to leave Arsenal's Alex Iwobi on the bench for the African Cup of Nations clash with Madagascar.

Despite having already qualified from Group B, Nigeria's performance against Madagascar left a lot to be desired, with the Super Eagles losing 2-0 against the tournament debutants.

As a result, Nigeria finish in second place in the group, with Madagascar leapfrogging them into top spot.

But while that is disappointing for the fans of the Super Eagles, it was the decision of coach Rohr to rotate his side for the final game which has attracted criticism from supporters.

Rohr left Arsenal star Iwobi and Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi on the bench for the game, having already secured qualification from the group with 1-0 victories against Burundi and Guinea in their opening two matches.

Both players did come on in the second half, but were unable to turn the game in the three-time champions' favour, as Nigeria lost out 2-0 in one of the surprise results of the tournament.

And now, as a result of finishing second, they could face Ghana or Cameroon in the next round, with many Nigeria fans not pleased with the coach and the selection he made for the Madagascar clash.

Indeed, the reaction from Nigeria fans on social media this afternoon (Sunday) tells the story of what they thought about Iwobi and Ndidi starting the game on the bench.

Here's what some Nigeria fans have had to say.
