Why Neymar won't be PSG captain explained by Thomas Tuchel

Paris-Saint Germain coach Thomas Tuchel has explained why Neymar is not captain material.

Brazilian star Neymar scored one and set the other up in PSG's 2-1 win away at Angers in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Neymar was playing in his final game of the season for the French champions before starting a three-game ban for an altercation with a spectator during the Coupe de France final.

Tuchel was asked after the game if Neymar had the qualities to be captain.

The coach said: No. We have two captains in Thiago Silva and Marquinhos - we will not be changing that.

"For me, Neymar does not have the profile to be a captain with the armband.

"He is a technical leader through his creativity, but he is not an armband-wearing captain. It is not necessary that he wears it and I do not understand why everybody is suddenly speaking about this."

In quotes reported by ESPN , he added: "We must be respectful - we have Thiago and Marquinhos, who are fantastic."

Neymar was given a three-match ban, with an additional two games suspended, for hitting a fan after PSG's French Cup final defeat to Rennes.

He said: "I did not like it, I did not like it at all. It is not possible to do this sort of thing.

"Defeat is not easy to accept, but you must show respect. You cannot do that."

Neymar became the most expensive player in history when he moved to the French capital from Barcelona in 2017.
