Why next 6 weeks are crucial ahead of Seahawks season

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll believes the Seattle Seahawks can win games over the next six weeks. But the players, who just wrapped up their mandatory minicamp and are now on summer break, must be trusted to follow the workout plan on their own.

“This is an extraordinarily competitive time,” coach Carroll told reporters Thursday. “So many things can happen, guys can go south on you, they can get better. Changes can occur right now. We’re really trying to be focused about it. We’ve helped them create a plan for their offseason to make sure that they’re coordinated, organized and they’ll max this out.”

The Seahawks are allowed no football-related contact with the roster until training camp kicks off at the end of July. The players are sent home with a game plan and staying in shape is critical before the start of the season. The time off is cause for concern for any coach in the NFL.

“If these guys just get back here and they’re like they were, we’re going to be fine,” Carroll continued. “There’s no reason that every one of these guys shouldn’t come back in the best condition of their life. This is the only season they have in their life and they should do everything they can to do that. That has been the message, so they’ve been challenged to make the most of us. This is crucial to us that we do a great job here.

“We’ll win games right here in these next six weeks.”
