Why Newcastle United star Jamaal Lascelles met up with Rangers stars in Dubai

Newcastle United have sent skipper Jamaal Lascelles on a warm weather training trip to recover from a knee problem.

The Toon centre-back is running again and after returning to light training, the Magpies felt that the sunshine break would help him move closer to a Premier League return.

This was a tactic used with Matt Ritchie on his long road back from an ankle problem earlier in the campaign.

Lascelles was spotted at a plush training facility after the cameras turned up to focus on Glasgow Rangers' mid-season training camp.

The United captain was spotted chatting to Newcastle old boy James Tavernier, who has been linked with a move to Tyneside this month.

Lascelles was originally hurt back in November in the win over Bournemouth.

Speaking about the injury last year, Lascelles said: "I was trying to shield the ball from Martin Dubravka and I was running full pelt.

"The striker kicked the outside of my right leg and pushed me in the back and I've jolted my leg and twisted it a bit."
