Why Newcastle United's defender injury crisis won't change Steve Bruce's January transfer plans

Steve Bruce does not believe Newcastle United will need defensive reinforcements in the January window - despite a fresh spate of problems after the defeat at Leicester.

Bruce went into the window hoping to bring in a striker and a midfielder.

But when asked about the recruitment situation he said: “No, it's not going to change my thoughts at all.

“As I said, we might get four or five back in the next week or two and I'll say it again, if there is somebody out there that we can get and will make us better, then we'll try that.”

Bruce was also asked whether anybody would be back in time for Rochdale.

He added: “Ciaran Clark, I can't see it, and I can't see Lascelles either, so out of six, we've got four missing.

“It's quite ridiculous, but it's the way it is.“
