Why Newcastle squad were separated on way back from Arsenal as footage emerges of fan approaching players

Newcastle United’s squad were separated on their journey back from London after the 4-0 hammering at Arsenal.

However, United sources insist that there was no post-game disagreement and Nabil Bentaleb, Danny Rose, Allan Saint-Maximin and Christian Atsu took a train home by choice.

After a bumpy plane journey to the capital, United offered players a choice of travel.

Footage emerged online of one fan confronting Newcastle players in their seats after the heavy defeat and there was some speculation of a fall-out in the dressing room afterwards but that was not the case. The rest of the squad took off on time and there were no delays.

Steve Bruce held a dressing room inquest after United’s last heavy defeat at Leicester City, but insisted after the game there had been no repeat.

Bruce replied: "None of us at half-time would have seen that.

"We knew Arsenal would come with more intensity in the second half, and we’ve given a poor goal away.

"It was a big floated ball into the box, and for Aubameyang to have a free header is poor.

“We’ll have to do those basics again, the basics of how we’ve been all season.”
