Why Newcastle fans should be encouraged by Jetro Willems' birthday message to Allan Saint-Maximin

Jetro Willems has wished his Newcastle United team-mate Allan Saint-Maximin a happy birthday - and re-iterated his hope they will line-up together in the near future.

The Dutchman quickly established himself as a fans' favourite on Tyneside following his season-long loan move from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 25-year-old notched memorable strikes against Liverpool and Manchester City, but his season was brought to a premature end when he was stretchered off against Chelsea in January.

Willems is currently undergoing rehabilitation from an ACL injury which will likely rule him out until at least September. But despite the uncertainty over his immediate future, the Dutch international has not been shy in publicly outlining his wish to sign for the Magpies on a permanent basis.

The defender previously told ChronicleLive : "I think everything about Newcastle felt right: the club, the fans, the competition just suited me."

Willems posted footage of his ongoing rehabilitation work in a swimming pool on Thursday, and later posted a message to wish Saint-Maximin a happy birthday.

The post finished with the suggestion the Dutchman is keen to link-up with the former Nice forward again, saying he "can't wait to bring that danger on the left with you again".

Willems message read: "Happy birthday to @asaintmaximin who probably got a Gucci party hat on today.

"Blessings mon frere, can’t wait to bring that danger on the left with you again.
