Q: Why do Kiwis love knitwear?.
A: The NZ farmers woolen T-shirt is as embedded in our culture as the cotton tee is in American culture. I wear woolen tees, work boots, work pants, and a heavy knit jumper. Since moving back, I've got a lot of jumpers.

The Marr's hair and beauty salons are bustling (Aucklanders are as obsessed with their mani/pedi routines as New Yorkers).
Q: Why does knitwear work?
A: (Lucy) It offers effortless flexibility and is the best for exploring the outdoors whether it be urban or rural terrain. Knitwear sums us Kiwis up.
Q: Why do kiwis have an affinity with knitwear?
A: (Stephen) We have a heritage of quality wool and merino and a reputation for progressive farming and breeding. As a result we have produced some of the best yarns on the market today.

Q: Do you think Kiwis have a particular affinity with knitwear?
A: I wish the affinity manifested itself with sheep running through the city but I suppose we have to make do with Merino-clad humans scurrying about their daily business for now.

Murray Bevan, Fashion PR
No one makes a fashionable move in Auckland without Murray, the kingpin of showroom22, New Zealand's first fashion showroom and PR agency.
Q: Tell us about Kiwis and knitwear.
A: Cue a long list of jokes about sheep. But like any good community, we've looked locally to what we can use, we've developed new uses for wool, and we're adept at making the most of it.
