Why new M&S hot cross buns are causing outrage

You may think February is just a little bit early to start prepping for Easter, but that doesn't mean everyone does.

Shops up and down the UK are already full to the brim with Easter treats such as Easter Eggs and chocolate.

And now one of the nation's favourite supermarkets, Marks & Spencer is stocking on some rather controversial new hot cross buns.

The MEN reports M&S has announced a range of flavoured hot cross buns, which include salted caramel, Belgian chocolate and Bramley apple.

However, one flavour has caused uproar amongst shoppers.

Sharing the new product on Facebook, M&S wrote: "Hello new flavour alert! These are not just hot cross buns… These are NEW Chilli and Cheese Hot Cross Buns.

"Visit us in store to toast the start of the Easter season."

After the post was shared, it wasn't long before comments started pouring in, and it's safe to say some shoppers were less than impressed with the offering.

"Noooo, these are just Chilli and cheese baps or brioche.

"Not Hot Cross Buns," said one disgruntled shopper.

Another said: "That’s not a hot cross bun. It’s a cheese roll. Stop it."

"Shouldn't be allowed, REAL Hot Cross Buns should not have any of these faddy flavourings," slammed somebody else.

A fourth critic vented: "No no no! So very wrong!"

The buns do have some fans, though, with some people commenting that they can't wait to try them. Savoury fans, unite!
