Why Mother's Day has become a massive night out for Scousers

Scouse mums - they're cranks, hard work and not afraid to tell you how it is - but this is why we love them so much, right?

For those who may still be unaware, tomorrow is Mother's Day and while the majority of shoppers across the rest of the country will no doubt be stocked up on the usual presents - flowers, slippers, photo frames - when it comes to spoiling a Scouse mum it is completely different.

I'm not implying Mum would be ungrateful (well not to my face anyway) if I bought her any of the above gifts, but sadly (for my bank balance) the game needs to be upped when it comes to buying for her.

However, the present buying is only really the start of Mother's Day for many families across Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong, in previous years our Mother's Day would usually consist of taking my mum for a pub lunch, but last year we decided to join the in-laws and head into town for the day.

But, a Mother's Day meal at 1pm in a restaurant in town somehow ended up with me suffering from quite the hangover the next day.

It was at this point I realised just how many Scousers go 'out-out' for Mother's Day.

After last year's meal we went round a few bars and eventually ended up in one of the city centre's karaoke bars and it was busy, very busy.

I was actually surprised by how good of a time we all had, and it somehow set a precedent with my mum that from then on we'd always go 'out out' on Mother's Day.

Which is exactly what we'll be doing tomorrow (with a slightly kinder hangover to follow the next day, hopefully) but my own plans aside, it seems this idea of going all out on Mother's Day is very much a Scouse tradition.

A Sunday night in Liverpool is often surprisingly busy with clubbers so Mother's Day only seems to add to this.

Whether it be a night out with your Mum (because after all, there is no better best friend than your Scouse Mum) or a night out with your own group of mates, you'll find many of the city's bars, pubs and restaurants heaving, with everyone up for having a good time.

Many of the city's clubs have events on tomorrow including Kingdom's No Scrubs event which includes free pizza too. Or, for those who prefer to just stay around the pubs you can always rely on places like The Crocodile for a good laugh.
