Why more Ramsdens broker and financial services shops are popping up all over the place

There are three new branches of pawnbroker and financial services firm Ramsdens on Merseyside.

It comes after the business, which specialises in jewellery, watches and travel money, acquired The Money Shop earlier this year in a £1.5m deal.

The deal in March meant Ramsdens - which already has 139 stores and four franchises - bought the business and certain operating assets of 18 The Money Shop stores from its owners Cash Loans Ltd.

A total of 70 new employees were taken on by Ramsdens, with five stores also closing.

All the stores are primarily in the North West and Scotland, and on Merseyside , at least, shoppers will have noticed three stores have changed hands.

They are Lord Street and Richmond Street in Liverpool, and on Liscard Way in Wallasey, adding to the brand's stores on Prescot Road and in Norris Green.

Peter Kenyon, chief executive of Ramsdens, told BusinessLive: “We’re delighted to open the doors of three new stores in Merseyside and to introduce new and regular customers to the Ramsdens brand. We can’t wait to offer a helping hand in getting the best deals on holiday money, gold buying, jewellery and much more.”

It's a move the firm says has "further cemented" Ramsdens' presence in the area, highlighting its "continued commitment".

Services offered by the firm include pawnbroking, cheque cashing, travel money and gold buying services, as well as new and pre-owned jewellery collections.

Established in 1987 in Stockton-on-Tees and headquartered in Middlesbrough, Ramsdens has 158 branches across Northern England, Scotland and Wales.  It's also the sponsors of Middlesbrough FC.

The AIM-listed brand says it has served more than 830,000 customers during the last financial year
