Why military helicopters were flying over Greater Manchester today

This video captures the moment a military helicopter could be seen in the skies above Rochdale.

Aviation fans said they spotted up to four choppers flying low in the area on Sunday afternoon.

They are thought to be Apache helicopters, which are flown in pairs and are designed to hunt and destroy tanks.

According to the British Army website, the helicopters carry a mix of weapons - including rockets, missiles, a 30mm chain gun and a defensive aid suite.

It is understood they were on a training exercise.
