Why Middlesbrough have been handed preparation boost for Nottingham Forest clash

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate will get an extra day to prepare his players to face Nottingham Forest, after scrapping a planned scouting trip.

The Reds take on Boro at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night in their next match in the Sky Bet Championship.

Sabri Lamouchi's side are in fourth place in the league standings, and striving to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Boro are battling to avoid relegation, and are only above the drop zone on goal difference, although they could find themselves in the bottom three by the time kick-off arrives on Monday night.

Both clubs will get an extra two days to prepare for the contest, although Woodgate reveals he had plans to attend a scouting trip on Saturday.

However, the Boro boss has explained that the trip was cancelled, and he will now use that time to have extra preparation to face Forest.

"I was down to go and see a game but I’m not now because the person I was going to watch isn’t playing," Woodgate told Teesside Live , although he declined to elaborate.

"It's a normal day," he added."We will do what we normally do two days before a game, we will look at some tactical things and we will prepare.

"Is it good or bad not playing at the same time as the others? I don't know. You just have to take the positives.

"I’m glad the game isn't on Saturday so we’ll be able to do some extra work."
