Why Michael Doyle is starting to think Notts County's great escape is meant to be

Is it written in the stars Notts County will avoid relegation? Michael Doyle is starting to think so.

Notts have just three games left to pull off what manager Neal Ardley says would be "the most remarkable of escapes", starting today with a trip south to face Crawley Town.

Back-to-back defeats could have so easily ended the Magpies' hopes of maintaining their League status, but both Yeovil and Macclesfield Town's willingness to slip-up has kept Notts within touching distance of safety.

And now Doyle, a man who has never had it in his character to go down without a fight, says it is those results elsewhere that are making him believe this could still be his side's year.

"The only positive from the last two games when we have walked off the pitch is that nobody has got away from us," he said.

"When I first came here the gap was eight points and we closed that pretty quick and then we lost it again.

"After the Cheltenham game it was seven points, I think, and it was looking quite severe and people were writing us off - but we came back."

"I don't know," he continued. "This just feels like it's meant to be.

"I don't like to rely on anybody else but the fact that we keep slipping up is disappointing.

"If there was ever a chance for us to do it then we have got to take these opportunies.

Notts County have what it takes to climb out of relegation zone, says Craig Mackail-Smith

"Those other teams are waiting, just hanging there, for us to catch them.

"This is a huge game for us now to get back amongst it."
