Why McDonald's UK won't bring back the McRib as it returns to USA

McDonald's famous and favourite McRib is returning to 10,000 restaurants - but they're all in the USA.

And McDonald's UK has a good reason for not including it on the menu over here.

The limited edition pork sandwich will be back in 10,000 US locations from Monday, October 7 in what has become an annual tradition.

The rib is not a permanent fixture on US menus as McDonald's says not enough pork is eaten in the country to make it popular all year round - while it is sold every day in countries such as Germany and Luxembourg.

The Rib first appeared in restaurants in 1981 but was taken off the permanent menu just four years later - returning every few years for a guest appearance.

But while it makes a comeback in the USA and Canada every year, it doesn't look there are plans to bring it back to the UK.

According to McDonald's UK: "The reason for this is that the McRib patty is made from ground pork and, in the UK, we consider it important to separate pork and beef on the grill.

"Unfortunately, many of our restaurants do not have enough grill capacity to cook pork and beef products at the same time.

"The breakfast menu is different because we don't serve beef products, which allows us to have a dedicated grill for all our delicious pork products."

So if you're a fan of the McRib, you just have to grab yourself a ticket to the USA to try one.
