Why Mauricio Pochettino will not be addressing Newcastle United rumours on BT Sport tonight

Mauricio Pochettino will not be addressing the rumours about his next destination tonight.

The Argentine is reportedly being eyed as a possible replacement for current Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce by the club’s new prospective buyers.

According to a report by Sky Sports, the Argentine is the leading contender to take over at St James’ Park once the takeover is complete.

The report even goes as far as saying that Newcastle could pay Pochettino £19million-a-year in a bid to lure him to the north east.

The former Spurs chief has been out of work since last November, just months after guiding the club to the Champions League final.

Spurs went from top-six also-rans to top-four regulars, finishing second in the Premier League in 2016/17 and reaching the European Cup final last season.

And it is that European run that Pochettino is set to discuss on BT tonight.

The broadcaster is showing reruns of last season’s Champions League ties, with tonight’s viewing a look back at Tottenham’s stunning second half comeback against Ajax.

The Argentine is set to be the special guest on the show, but BT presenter Jake Humphrey has confirmed that they will only be discussing last season’s Champions League campaign.

He wrote on Twitter: “I’m afraid to say, for all the #nufc fans messaging me. I understand the excitement, but quite understandably, the interview tonight is on the proviso we only talk about the CL last season. Sorry everyone.”

Despite trailing 1-0 from the first leg, then 3-0 on aggregate at half time, a Lucas Moura hat-trick completed one of the most memorable comebacks in football and sealed Spurs’ place in the final.

But the North London club were beaten in the final in Madrid by Premier League rivals Liverpool.
