Why Match of the Day pundit thinks Leeds United may struggle after Chelsea draw

Leeds United might struggle for goals after top scorer Patrick Bamford hobbled off against Chelsea. That is according to Match of the Day pundit Jermaine Jenas, who analysed the 0-0 draw at Elland Road as part of the BBC Sport panel alongside regular host Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

A point in the Saturday lunchtime clash means Leeds have only won one of their last six Premier League games, while Chelsea are now 12 unbeaten in all competitions since Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard - much to the delight of fans at Elland Road.

But while they picked up a promising enough point against the Blues, the draw came at a cost as Bamford was forced off on the back of two aerial challenges with Antonio Rudiger.

It is the latest in a long line of injury blows for Marcelo Bielsa - who did welcome back Kalvin Phillips for the clash - but will it have a telling impact on their fortunes going forward?

Speaking on the MOTD panel, Jenas said: "They've had a great season. They've got to be delighted with the way they've come into the league. This game, in particular, they did really well and they lost Bamford, so they may struggle for goals going forward."

Bamford, who came through the ranks at Chelsea, has scored 13 goals in the Premier League this season - with his form prior to this injury setback edging him closer to a dream England call-up.

On the display of Leeds' in-form opponents, Shearer added: "I thought Chelsea played really well, they got into some excellent positions, but they just weren't clinical enough.

"Tuchel said there about him (Havertz) getting forward and making runs into the box. He didn't quite do that, certainly in the first half, because if he had, he'd have two or three tap-ins.

"Yes, they played well, yes, they got into positions, but they certainly weren't clinical enough. If he is going to play in that position that the manager wants him to, then he's got to get into better positions."

That said, Shearer's comments on Chelsea's lack of a clinical edge fail to recognise the important defensive work conducted by Leeds trio Kalvin Phillips, Pascal Struijk and Diego Llorente on the day.
