Why Mason Greenwood and Daniel James aren't starting for Manchester United vs Tottenham

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Daniel James is out with an injury while Mason Greenwood also suffered a knock with the duo both dropping out of the Manchester United starting line-up vs Tottenham.

United are looking to strengthen their grip on second place in the Premier League and keep their unlikely title dreams alive when they kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Solskjaer's side head into the game 14 points behind runaway league leaders Man City but have two games in hand and could cut the gap down to eight points with only six matches left of the campaign.

In order to do so United will need another positive result this weekend and Solskjaer has explained his team selection ahead of the match with Spurs.

Wales international James drops out of the squad altogether with an injury while Greenwood settles for a place on the bench after a recent injury setback himself.

"Freshen it up, carry on doing things we have done," he told MUTV.

"Dan had an injury on Thursday night so he couldn't be with us, Mason also had some niggles so we gave him some rest from the start.

"I think everyone is fine, we didn't do a lot on the training pitch, we had the meetings but rest and the recovery is the name of the game. We will be ready."
