Marcelo Saracchi could still make a permanent switch to Celtic despite a reported stalling in negotiations.
The Boca Juniors left-back is wanted by the Hoops following what was a successful loan stint in Glasgow where the Uruguayan defender won the league and cup double.
Saracchi, 28, will return to Argentina before the World Cup as he hopes to be unleashed by Marcelo Bielsa at the tournament. But his parent club are believed to still be in the same situation with the player as before his loan stint.
Boca have first choice Lautaro Blanco as their number one pick in that position while Malcom Braida is his understudy despite playing at right-back recently.
The club also have non-Argentine player rules to contend with which leaves Saracchi in limbo with registration not guaranteed.
The left-sided full-back is only contracted until 2027 which means despite the fact that Celts would have to spend to bring the player in, they would be unlikely to have to break the bank to do so.
Argentinian outlet Bolavip are reporting that Boca are keen to move Saracchi on and would be willing to do a deal with the Hoops but discussions did stall and have not yet progressed.
He made 26 appearances for the Scottish Premiership champions this season and was singled out for praise by manager Martin O'Neill after the final day shootout against Hearts.
Saracchi is scheduled to make his return to the Ezeiza facility for pre-season on June 30.
What happens after that is anyone's guess at the moment.
