Why Manchester United won't release Victor Lindelof for Sweden friendly fixture

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will not be allowed to play in Sweden's upcoming friendly match versus Denmark due to quarantine restrictions.

Due to the United Kingdom's new quarantine rules against Denmark none of the five players based across England and Scotland will be allowed to feature for Sweden in Brøndbyvester this Wednesday evening.

United defender Lindelof, Robin Olsen, Emil Krafth, Filip Helander and Ken Sema will not be released by their clubs for the upcoming friendly match but will be allowed to take part in the two Nations League matches vs Croatia and France.

It means Sweden will be allowed to call-up substitute players for the match against Denmark this week before Lindelof and the other quartet all travel to their homeland at the end of the week.

Speaking last week Sweden boss Janne Andersson confirmed he was planning to give Lindelof a rest during the upcoming international break after a hectic start to the domestic season.

Asked about Krasnodar winger Viktor Claesson, he said: “With him and many others, the load level is different. Players like Marcus Berg, Kristoffer Olsson, Emil Forsberg and Victor Lindelöf have had an almost brutal fixture list towards the end. We have to be very careful and responsive about those players when we gather together.

“Filip Helander is back, has played and done well. Victor Lindelöf is doing very well.”
